Dots and Stripes with Zoya Nail Polish

I’ve been wearing a different color of polish every other day for the past several weeks. I’m a huge fan of Zoya Nail Polish, and back in April they had their annual Earth Day promo. I picked up 12 nail polishes for $4 each instead of the regular $8. I loaded up on the new 2013 spring collection, and selected shades from the summer 2013 collections.

I decided to try an easy dot and stripe manicure using all Zoya products. The three major colors are all from the Summer Stunning Collection. Beautiful cream shades that are a dream to paint on, and make my nails just come alive with bright color. I used Josie (green), Darcy (yellow) and Thandie (orange) for this manicure. I also used Zoya’s classic white and black in Purity and Raven for the dots and stripes.

I started with a base coat of Zoya’s Anchor Base Coat, then layered on 2 coats of color for each nail. Once that was dry, I used a striping brush to alternate the white and black stripes on the nails. Then on to the dots. I don’t have a large dotting tool. I realize now that I’ll need to get one. I’ve seen some great prices for dotting tool kits on eBay and Amazon. I used the end of a paint brush for the large dots, and a smallish dotting tool for the smaller inner dots. Then I covered it all with a coat of Zoya’s Armor Top Coat.

All in all, this was a very easy manicure. Everyone who saw it thought it was really difficult. It didn’t take much time at all. I thought my non-dominant hand would make a mess of everything when trying to paint stripes and dots, but it was nearly perfect. I didn’t have to re-do a single finger, and for that I was grateful.

What bright colors are you wearing for Summer? Would you ever wear a busy patterned print like this on your nails? Do you prefer short nails, or longer nails? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!

Glitter Nails

I feel like I should change this blog name to “The Nail Polish Gal”. I’m constantly posting about polish. I’ve been doing that lots recently. I promise, I do have several makeup related posts brewing in my brain right now. They just need some time.

Earlier this month I mentioned that Zoya, my favorite brand of polish was having a Color Your World promo for the New Year. They offered 3 polishes for free, and asked that you pay $10 for shipping and handling. It was a fantastic deal since each polish is normally $8 each. I just checked, and after receiving the 3 I got with the promo, I now have 52 shades of Zoya polish. A little over board maybe, but I love everything about this polish line.

  1. They are vegan
  2. They are 5 Free , they don’t use toluene, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin and DBP (dibutyl phthalate)
  3. They offer color spoons (check out the video)
  4. They have amazing promos regularly (like the one that got me 3 amazing polishes for $10 shipping)
  5. They have over 300 colors to choose from
  6. They have amazing customer service

Here’s one amazing color I got during the promo called Aurora

I was debating if I needed another purple, but look at that! It’s amazing. Oh, and I loved the glitter. I find that I love glitter polishes more than I thought I ever would. After deciding to wear it the other day, I wanted to pair it with something else. So I pulled out several other colors. I had to swatch them all to see what would look the best with it.

zoya glitter-3Starting on the left, every other swatch is Aurora. The first non-Aurora swatch is Zoya Katherine. It’s a jelly in 2 layers. It might have looked better in 3 layers. Next is Zoya Toni. Then China Glaze Glistening Snow, China Glaze Champagne Kisses and Color Club Put a Pin In It (Birchbox Exclusive).  I even asked my husband’s advice, but didn’t take it. He was leaning towards China Glaze Glistening Snow, but Champagne Kisses works better with my skin tone.

If you haven’t had the chance to try Zoya polish yet, you can in a extremely easy way. If you click this link, you can receive a free bottle of polish with your first order.

Here’s what the Zoya website says about the “Share the Love” link.

“When someone clicks on your personal link and sets up an online account, a coupon for a FREE Bottle of Zoya Nail Polish will automatically be placed in their account and can be used immediately on their current order. TIP: If you use this coupon and add 2 more polishes to your order, you get free shipping too! The coupon will appear in the “My Coupons/ Promos” section of their “My Account” Page.”

So try Zoya and get a free bottle of polish. If nothing else, set up an account now for the times they do amazing promos. If you follow them on Facebook or Twitter you’ll hear about them there. I also love their Pinterest account. I love looking at amazing pictures of nails. Especially if they are lacquered up in my favorite polish.

Zoya’s New Year Promo

You may have picked up I’m a Zoya Nail Polish devotee. I love their range of colors, how the polish wears, and I think the formula is great. If you’ve never tried their polish before, now is the time to. They always have amazing promotions, and this new years promotion is fantastic.

I got Aurora, Flowie and Breezi. I already have 48 Zoya colors, so I was making sure I was choosing colors to fill a few holes in my nail polish color spectrum. This makes nearly half my collection Zoya polish. I suppose that says a lot about how much I love their polish. I also decided to pick up their Anchor Base Coat and Armor Top Coat. I also got Qutica Extending Top Coat to try. I’ve been trying to find a replacement for Seche Vite. I know there really isn’t a replacement for it, but I’m still searching.

I payed $28 dollars for 3 polishes, one base coat and 2 top coats and shipping. Normally during a non promotion time, this would have cost me $50 for the products and $6.95 for shipping. I love that I got it all for $28 dollars. The fine print for the promotions says if you spend more than $25 with this promotion, you get free shipping. So I got products I’d been wanting to try for a long time, but always got distracted by the pretty nail color. This time I get nail color, and the base and top coats.

Give it a try, you might find you like Zoya. If nothing else, just for their promotions!

P.S. I LOVE their nail polish remover. I don’t use anything else. I swear by it!

Snowy Penguin Nails

My fellow blogger and friend, Shannon at Eyemasq did this really cute penguin nail art post just a few days ago. I loved it so much, I had to try it out.

It took me 3 episodes of Top Chef Seattle, and my husband laughing at me while I was cursing and removing all the polish from my nails only to start again, to realize this is harder than it looks. It’s not that I haven’t tried nail art before, I just haven’t blogged pictures of any attempts. So here are the first pictures of my penguins.

I knew I wasn’t able to do all 10 digits, so I decided to do 2 fingers per hand. Thumb and ring fingers. The rest I painted white and used a sparkly top coat to make it look like glistening snow and ice.

Penguins using Zoya Purity, Raven, and Arizona. Glitter top coat is China Glaze Make a Spectacle.

Two fingers are all I could manage. I had to use Seche Vite to smooth out all the brush strokes.

I think I spent enough time making these penguins to tickle my fancy. I’ll be trying out more nail art soon. Time to start watching some Youtube videos! If you have any suggestions for me, I’d appreciate it. I don’t want to learn to paint someone’s portrait on my nails, but I do want to learn a bit more about using real nail polish for nail art.

Thanks for taking a look at the penguins, and make sure to check out my friend Shannon’s blog, Eyemasq. She does amazing things with eye shadow and liner!

Fall Nails

I’ve been addicted to polishing my nails. I can’t seem to stop. In the last month, I’ve picked up over a dozen new fall shades and I’m in nail polish heaven.

I know it’s still warm enough to wear summer shades, but I’ve been wearing dark colors. Blood red, vampy wine tones, navy blue, and army greens. I do have some new fall nudes, but I’m in the mood for dark polish. The darker, the better.

This is one of my new favorites from Zoya. It’s called Evvie. It’s a smokey eucalyptus/army green shade. Beautiful. I love it. I picked it up at ULTA.

Happy fall, and embrace the darker nail colors. You’ll look smashing and chic.

P.S. I just clipped all the length off my nails because I keep accidentally scratching my children.  I’m sad to have short nails again, but it’s nice to know that I won’t poke an eye out trying to hug them.

Midweek Manicure

I love staying up late painting my nails. I know it’s not always the perfect time of day to do it’s since it right before bed, but as the mom of two small kids, it’s the only uninterrupted time I have. I sit in bed, open my bedside drawer that is full of polish bottles and everything else I might need, and get to work.

Tonight I thought I’d start Wednesday off with a bang. I recently ordered 6 new polishes from Zoya during their BOGO back to school offer, and then I picked up another 4 more at my local Ulta. So I am now the proud owner of 10 new Zoya shades that are begging to be used.

I was really taken with the gold micro glitter polishes in their Diva collection. I already had Daul, and I had to have FeiFei.

Zoya – FeiFei

FeiFei is a steely grey blue with gold, blue and pink iridescent micro glitter. I’ve been sporting FeiFei on my toes for almost a week now, but wanted to see what would happen when I added a little something extra to it. Another polish I added to my cart during the BOGO was from the Gloss Collection called Frida.

Zoya – Frida

Frida is a sheer, buildable jelly polish with a vibrant teal tone. I love this color. So for my manicure tonight I used two coats of  FeiFei, and one of Frida. I still haven’t decided if I’ll top it with another coat of jelly, or just move on to top coat. Here’s what I have so far.

Two Coats of FeiFei

FeiFei and one coat of Frida

I really love how the jelly can change the tone of a polish. I think this means that I need more jeweled toned jellies in my collection. If you have any great suggestions, just let me know. Have a great rest of the week.

Midweek Manicure

All three colors are Zoya Nail Polish. Keiko (purple) with accent nail in Wednesday (turquoise) and Purity (white)

I finally removed my zebra print Sally Hansen nail strips on Monday, and painted my nails a muted beige. When I came home from work today I had to liven up my manicure. I felt too ladylike in my nude nails. I felt like I should have been wearing a twin set and pearls.

Over the past 9 months I’ve become a huge fan of Zoya nail color. I love the amazing color selection they offer, and how great their polishes apply. I also love how instead of being 3-free, they’re 5-free. They just don’t put all the yucky stuff in their nail polish.

So if you’re looking for a new shade to add to your collection, check out the Zoya website. You can search through their 300+ colors and find one that’s right for you. If you’re lucky, you might have a local salon that carries Zoya products.

Polish away, and wear some bright colors this summer.

Sunday Manicure

Zoya manicure with Arizona (orange) and Wednesday (dusty turquoise)

I stayed up late enough on Saturday night for it to be Sunday morning. While watching Mad Men season 1 episodes, I gave myself this manicure. (I’m re-starting at the beginning since tonight is the season finale, and I’ll be so sad.)

I’ve been meaning to try this cloud style for an accent nail. I found it on one of my favorite nail blogs, Nailside. I might put clouds on all my nails next time. It’s really easy to do, so you might give it a try. The link for Nailside has the cloud tutorial.

Have a great start to the week. Let me know if you try it out.

Friday Morning Manicure

It’s past midnight and I’m still waiting for my manicure to dry. I’ve been wanting to do an accent nail for a long time, so I finally did. I might add some polka dots or stripes tomorrow, but I’ll be lucky if I make it through the night without sheet prints.

I love these two new colors I got in the mail from Zoya last week. They were part of my Earth Day promo. (buy at least 6 nail colors, and get them at half off) I got 8 colors, and these were some of my favorites. The purple is Keiko, and the green is Wednesday. They’re both lovely cream colors with excellent coverage in two coats. I was thinking about letting them dry on their own so I could add some nail art tomorrow, but it’s late enough that I’m adding Seche Vite Top Coat and going to bed.

I decided not to make both ring fingers the accent nails. On my left hand it’s the ring finger, on my right, the index finger. These colors make me happy. Do something that makes you smile this weekend. Okay?

It’s All In The Details

It starts out with a simple dress. Just the right dress that’s a bit demure. All this dress need to be truly fabulous is confidence, and the right details.

I fell in love with this dress because of the polka dots. I’ve always had a weakness for polka dots and black and white. What I love about this dress is that the polka dots start out as circles, and end up as ovals near the middle. It’s a fantastic print. I love color too much to pair this dress with a plain black shoe. Also, gone are the days of matching your shoes to your bag. With so much print on the dress, and a bright red shoe, I needed a neutral bag. Of course a little sparkle doesn’t hurt.

For the cosmetics, I decided to let the lips rule. I’m a huge fan of bold lips, and red is my all time favorite color. It was just such a classic choice with this polka dot print. For the perfect red manicure, I’m loving Zoya nail polish in Sooki. My very own bottle should be in the mail, and arriving at my doorstep sometime very soon.  I also think that you can never go wrong with black eyeliner and great mascara. It’s such a compliment to the red lips.

As for the hat, I know some people think it might be a bit over the top. I put it in the mix because I’m an over the top kind of gal. I love hats. I look great in them, especially ones with wide brims. I should say “Hat optional”.

Just a little something to inspire the lady in all of us.
